PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Campbell (ranked 6132 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hunter Melton (ranked 6703 p4p, 0 weight class). Campbell comes to the cage accompanied by DOOM & RZA - Books Of War (instrumental). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Campbell gets tackled into the cage by Melton. Melton maintains the clinch.
Melton is trying to break the clinch but Campbell is controlling him.
Campbell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Melton after a bit of a struggle.
Melton struggles to land a body shot inside as Campbell controls his hands.
Campbell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Melton's efforts to push away.
Melton misses with a punch to the body.
A short right from Melton.
Melton tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Campbell misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Campbell.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Melton tries a body shot but Campbell blocks it.
Melton lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Campbell backwards.

Melton wants to get back to striking at distance but Campbell won't allow it.

Campbell jumps into guard, dragging Melton to the mat.

Campbell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Melton's guard.

Campbell trying to control the position from guard on top but Melton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Melton looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Campbell is really struggling to control Melton but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Melton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Campbell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Campbell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Melton avoids the body shot from Campbell.
Melton circles away from the clinch attempt.
Campbell walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Campbell is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Melton closes the distance and pushes Campbell back into the cage.
Campbell blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Melton misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A short uppercut from Melton.
Melton's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Campbell blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Campbell prevents a body shot from Melton.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter Melton dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Melton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Melton wants it to stay on the feet.

Campbell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Melton is looking to reverse the position.
Campbell tries to advance to mount but can't.
Campbell is working hard here to advance position.
Campbell wants to control for a moment but Melton uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Melton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Campbell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Campbell looking to sit in guard and control but Melton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Campbell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Melton on the ground.
Campbell is trying to control the position but Melton postures up.
Melton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Campbell wants to stand up but Melton is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Campbell throws his legs up looking for a submission but Melton uses it to pass to side control.
Campbell is looking for a sweep.

Melton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Campbell to his feet.
Campbell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Melton avoids it really well and circles away.

Melton has taken the fight to the clinch.
Good body shot from Melton.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Campbell has Melton pressed against the cage, preventing Melton from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Melton wants to get back to striking at distance but Campbell won't allow it.

Melton lands with a left to the head.

Melton escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Campbell has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Melton dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by Melton as he connects with a hook.
Campbell dives in and grabs Melton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Melton pushes down on Campbell's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frankie Campbell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Melton fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Campbell looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Melton lands a big uppercut and Campbell crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Campbell looks OK. Melton waves Campbell back to his feet!


Campbell is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Campbell has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Melton finds it's way round the side to connect with Campbell's head.
Oh Campbell is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Melton cracks Campbell with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Melton has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Campbell to stand back up!
Campbell is holding his hands too far apart here. Melton throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Campbell is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Hunter Melton!
Hunter Melton decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
Frankie Campbell was interviewed post fight and said 'It is what it is.. I lost and i'll fix my mistakes and i'll come back.'.
