PBP Commentary

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robby Oneil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viacheslav Datsik!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Datsik closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Datsik lands in his opponent's guard.

Oneil manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Datsik throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Oneil blocks it with crossed arms.
Oneil is trying to pull guard but Datsik turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

It looks like Robby Oneil has been cut.
Oneil jumps guard but Datsik stands there with Oneil around his waist. Oneil gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Datsik throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Oneil blocks it with crossed arms.
Datsik is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Oneil is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Datsik to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robby Oneil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Oneil jumps guard but Datsik stands there with Oneil around his waist. Oneil gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Datsik is pushing Oneil up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Datsik using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Oneil has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Oneil has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Oneil wriggles free and stands up.

Datsik shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Oneil napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Datsik wants to control but Oneil is keeping him busy.
Oneil is looking to regain half guard here but Datsik keeps moving and retains side control.
Datsik trying to control the action but Oneil is working from the bottom.
Datsik is trying to ground and pound but Oneil uses the momentary lack of control by Datsik to regain half guard.
Oneil could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Datsik is keen to just control but Oneil is a slippery customer.
Oneil keeping control of the position.
Oneil is looking to control Datsik's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Oneil avoid being mounted?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Datsik wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oneil keeps working.
Datsik with the ground and pound but Oneil uses the opportunity to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Robby Oneil will probably get the nod.

Datsik tries to clinch there but Oneil circles away.
Oneil throws a big counter combination but Datsik scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Oneil shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Datsik is looking to stand up but Oneil isn't so interested in that idea.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Datsik can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Oneil controls the pace.
Oneil prevents Datsik from getting back to his feet.

Oneil is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Datsik throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Oneil was covering up waiting for the punch and Datsik finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Oneil has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Datsik is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Oneil is trying to pull guard but Datsik has him pressed against the cage.
Datsik tries a knee to the head but Oneil blocks it.

Datsik drops Oneil with a big knee straight up the middle! Oneil is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Datsik gets a big slam - oh, Oneil is out! Oneil is out! That's a nasty KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Viacheslav Datsik!
A less than humble Viacheslav Datsik misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
