The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ikban wants to clinch but Universe slips to the side
and Universe counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
An inside leg kick lands from Universe.
Ikban fails in his attempt to clinch.
Universe has Ikban up against the cage in a clinch.
Universe dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Ikban avoiding damage as Universe throws knees to the body.

A nice side step and Universe releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Universe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Universe.

It looks like Vlad Ikban has been cut.
Universe is pushing Ikban up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Universe tries to land a knee to the head but Ikban blocks with his arms.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ikban is looking to control Universe's arms but Universe gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ikban has his back to the cage.
Universe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mr Universe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ikban wants to clinch up but Universe keeps it at a distance.

Universe lands a nice looking kick to the body. Ikban takes a step back to recover.
Universe lands a jab-cross combination.
Universe throws a series of strikes that have Ikban backpedaling.
Universe forces Ikban back against the cage and clinches.

Universe fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ikban has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Ikban wants to break free but Universe has control.
Ikban takes a knee to the side of the body.
Universe landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Universe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ikban throws a leg kick
and Universe counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Universe lands a big head kick that sends Ikban tumbling to the mat! Universe takes a step backwards and waves Ikban back to his feet - he wants the finish!
