PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DJ Boom (ranked 731 p4p, 76 weight class) and Lyman Kissell (ranked 1322 p4p, 145 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that DJ Boom has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily DJ Boom seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyman Kissell!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Boom enables Kissell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Boom manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boom keeping moving, preventing Kissell from controlling successfully.
Kissell won't allow Boom to sweep him here.
Kissell wants to pass the guard but Boom is keeping the position.
Boom is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Boom seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kissell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kissell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Boom can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Boom got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kissell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Boom has managed to get both his arms back between Kissell's legs - danger averted.
Boom slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kissell doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kissell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Boom looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Boom looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Boom!

Kissell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kissell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

You can see the frustration on Kissell's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
