PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Kusal Perera (ranked 22582 p4p, 752 weight class) and Ross Kemp (ranked 9009 p4p, 692 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kusal Perera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Kemp!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Kemp looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Perera takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kemp misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Perera.
Kemp is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Perera.
Perera drops his hands momentarily and Kemp takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kemp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Perera swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Perera has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Perera looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A little jabbing left from Kemp on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Perera rushes Kemp and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perera blocks a body shot from Kemp.
Kemp scores with a nice hook to the head.
Kemp lands with a right to the head.

Kemp keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Perera's efforts to push away.
Perera tries to throw a body punch but Kemp avoids it by throwing Perera back against the ropes.

Kemp lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Kemp tries to work over Perera's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kemp blocks a body shot from Perera.
Kemp struggles to land a body shot inside as Perera controls his hands.
Perera lands a nice uppercut.
Kemp misses with a hook to the ribs.

Perera escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kemp scores with a jab to the head.
Kemp moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Kemp lands a glancing blow to the side of Perera's head.
Perera throws a wild body kick that Kemp sees coming a mile off.

Kemp steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Perera.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kemp connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kemp. Perera does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kemp wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kemp throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Perera stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nice uppercut lands for Kemp. That snapped Perera's head back.
Perera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kemp swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kemp just misses with a punch to the body.
A little feinted left hand from Perera on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Kemp swings widly with a right hand
and Perera cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Ross Kemp has been cut.
Kemp lands with a nice body punch.
Kemp scores with a nice right hand.
Perera tries to clinch there but Kemp circles away.

Kemp connects with a beautiful left hand that drops Perera onto his butt! Perera bounces straight back up though - he's OK. After the ref checks him out, we're back to the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Kemp dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ross Kemp's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Kemp catches his opponent with a big hook that sends him to the canvas! Perera stumbles back to his feet but will the referee allow it to continue? Perera walks forwards and this one will be allowed to continue! Come on!
Kemp tries to clinch but Perera is having none of it.
Perera is looking to clinch.
Perera moves out of range of the strikes.
Kemp misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Perera.
Ross Kemp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perera throws a right hand that Kemp ducks under and follows up with a left that Kemp also avoids with ease.
Nice body punch from Kemp.
A solid leg kick lands there for Perera.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Perera tries to clinch there but Kemp circles away.
Kemp has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Kemp lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kemp ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kemp swats away the attempt to clinch by Perera.

Kemp scores a knockdown with a big right hand! Perera beats the count and gets back to his feet. The referee asks him to walk forwards and it appears he is OK so we'll continue the bout.


Perera is rocked!

Perera doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Ross Kemp seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kemp punishes Perera's body with a nice straight punch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kemp scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Kemp uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Perera.
Perera throws a lazy uppercut

and Kemp counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kemp misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Perera working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Perera has a couple of punches blocked by Kemp.
Kemp struggles to land a body shot inside as Perera controls his hands.
Kemp is leaning against Perera and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Kemp lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Perera or not.

Kemp lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Perera goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Ross Kemp seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Kemp lands a right hand that snaps the head of Perera backwards.

Kemp lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Oh Perera is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kemp cracks Perera with a big uppercut, right up the middle and Perera goes down! Oh, he's hurt! He's bigtime hurt! The referee is giving him a chance to get back to his feet - 4,5,6,7, no, he's called it off! Perera wasn't going to make it and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Ross Kemp!
An out of breath Ross Kemp thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
