PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Stonie (ranked 8246 p4p, 684 weight class) and Damian Malenczuk (ranked 22420 p4p, 741 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Stonie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Malenczuk!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stonie throws a sloppy head kick and Malenczuk moves out of range easily.

Malenczuk tries a head kick but it misses.
Stonie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Malenczuk clinches up against the cage.
Stonie avoids the elbow strike from Malenczuk, against the cage.

Malenczuk jumps guard.
Stonie throws a big elbow that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stonie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Malenczuk is trying to keep Stonie in close.

Stonie is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Malenczuk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Stonie wants to stand but Malenczuk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Stonie works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Stonie is thwarting Malenczuk's attempts to control the position.
Stonie uses his free foot to push down on Malenczuk's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Malenczuk.

Stonie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Stonie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stonie unloads with some shots from mount but Malenczuk bucks and avoids them well.
Stonie trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Malenczuk tries to lock up and control but Stonie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stonie looking to control but Malenczuk is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Stonie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Malenczuk is surviving well by controlling Stonie's body position as best he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee warns Malenczuk that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stonie has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Malenczuk is on him like a limpet, forcing Stonie back against the cage.

Stonie is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Malenczuk breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Malenczuk throws a head kick that Stonie semi-blocks.
Stonie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Malenczuk manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Malenczuk shoots in for a takedown but Stonie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Malenczuk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stonie is trying to defend but Malenczuk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Stonie is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Malenczuk is controlling him.

Stonie is looking for a triangle but Malenczuk pushes his legs off easily.

Stonie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Malenczuk defends well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Malenczuk trying to control the position from guard on top but Stonie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Malenczuk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Stonie pulls Malenczuk in close to prevent any damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stonie is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malenczuk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Stonie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Malenczuk is trying to control the position but Stonie postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stonie scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Stonie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Malenczuk throws a combination. Stonie tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Malenczuk, as that shot connected.
Malenczuk closes the distance and clinches up with Stonie, looking for a takedown. Malenczuk pushes Stonie against the cage but Stonie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stonie misses with a straight right.
Stonie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Malenczuk.
Stonie tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Malenczuk manages to circle out of the way.
Stonie has a takedown stuffed.
Malenczuk misses with a wild body shot.
Stonie is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Malenczuk can do to turn this around?

Malenczuk connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

A bit of a lull in the action here.
Stonie can't do much from the bottom here.

Malenczuk stands up and beckons Stonie to his feet.

Malenczuk shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stonie napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Malenczuk throws an elbow but Stonie slips to the side and avoids it well.
Malenczuk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stonie keeps working.
Malenczuk remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Stonie can't do much from the bottom here.
Malenczuk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stonie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stonie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stonie.

Stonie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Damian Malenczuk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stonie has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
