PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sebastian Jones (ranked 7125 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matti Ciechan (ranked 6224 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ciechan tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Ciechan.

Ciechan dives in and scores a takedown into Jones's guard.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ciechan defends well.
Ciechan controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ciechan wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Ciechan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Ciechan gets to his feet. Jones looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ciechan is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.

Ciechan is taking a breather. Jones says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jones gets full guard.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Ciechan won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
Jones can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ciechan controls the pace.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Ciechan gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting.

Ciechan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ciechan is in Jones's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Ciechan has Jones pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ciechan is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ciechan holds on and takes a little breather.

Ciechan has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.

A close round but Matti Ciechan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ciechan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jones has one foot on Ciechan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Jones slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Ciechan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jones on his heels. He'll look to pass Jones's guard now, I'm sure.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ciechan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jones wants to improve his position but instead Ciechan has moved into half guard.

Ciechan gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Ciechan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ciechan cracks Jones with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ciechan working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Jones gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Ciechan decides to return to a standing position.
Jones really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Ciechan drives through with a takedown into Jones's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ciechan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ciechan tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ciechan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jones attempts a counter takedown but Ciechan avoids it well and moves away.

Ciechan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jones some visible discomfort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ciechan tries for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matti Ciechan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Ciechan tries to clinch but Jones moves away
and Jones counters with a series of strikes. Ciechan will be more careful next time no doubt.

Ciechan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ciechan wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Well, if Ciechan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ciechan is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
