Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Hodges (ranked 7561 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Pires (ranked 6227 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aaron Hodges!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eduardo Pires!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pires changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hodges looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pires tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hodges's legs.
Hodges regains half guard there - taking advantage of Pires's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Hodges actively working from the bottom here.
Pires prevents Hodges from improving his position.

Pires stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hodges to get to his feet.

Pires shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hodges's guard.
Pires won't allow Hodges to sweep him here.

Hodges is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pires defends well.

Hodges working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pires doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pires manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hodges is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pires is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hodges manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pires manages to get himself to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pires wants to sweep but no luck.
Hodges wants to pass the guard but Pires is keeping the position.
Pires is pulling down on Hodges's head. It's preventing any offense from Hodges, at least for the moment.
Hodges throws a big right hand that misses.

Hodges drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pires manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hodges has Pires in his guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round but I would say that Aaron Hodges will probably get the nod.

Pires shoots in and gets a takedown into Hodges's guard.

Hodges had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pires defends it easily.

Pires is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hodges is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hodges has escaped and now he's on top!

Pires avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hodges throws an elbow that misses. Pires uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hodges's guard. Nice move by Pires!

Pires is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Pires trying to control but Hodges is working from the bottom.
Hodges is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pires is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Pires would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hodges is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pires manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hodges's best efforts.
Pires wants to get back to full guard.
Hodges throwing shots but Pires is blocking nicely.
Pires is looking for a sweep. Hodges is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hodges thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pires is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Pires has his hands on Hodges's head, controlling the position.
Pires is trying to keep Hodges in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Eduardo Pires seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hodges shoots in and bounces Pires off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hodges throws an elbow that misses. Pires uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hodges's guard. Nice move by Pires!

Hodges manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pires manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aaron Hodges dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Pires lands a jab-cross combination.
Pires lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hodges circles away quickly and effectively.

Hodges shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pires napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Hodges is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pires is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Pires's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hodges swings around for an armbar but Pires sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hodges's guard.

Pires is looking to pass into half guard but Hodges pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hodges is in guard.

Hodges stands up over Pires, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hodges postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Pires rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hodges moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Aaron Hodges is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Pires wants to improve his position but Hodges is controlling well.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hodges, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
