PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eusebio Lucas (ranked 5757 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manolito Punyos (ranked 5381 p4p, 605 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eusebio Lucas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Manolito Punyos!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punyos connects with a single shot there.
Punyos looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Punyos misses with the body kick

and Lucas counters with a shoot takedown. Punyos fights it but they end up in guard.

Punyos uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Punyos throws a solid leg kick but Lucas takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Punyos.

and Punyos counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lucas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Punyos uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lucas has time to react.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lucas appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Punyos tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Lucas tries a knee to the head but Punyos blocks it.

No joy there for Punyos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Punyos throws an overhand right that lands on Lucas's shoulder, as Lucas tries to avoid the shot.

Lucas throws a counter high kick but Punyos was just alert enough to avoid it.

Lucas has Punyos up against the cage in a clinch.
Lucas doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Lucas connects with a knee to the head.
Lucas stalls.
Lucas content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Punyos wants to get back to striking at distance but Lucas won't allow it.

Lucas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lucas slips a jab and a cross from Punyos.
Good work by Punyos as he checks the leg kick.

Lucas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Punyos takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Lucas lands some shots froms side control.
Punyos looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lucas could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Check out the look on Lucas's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Lucas decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Lucas.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lucas lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Punyos down.

Lucas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Punyos, who protects the arm well.
Punyos is trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Eusebio Lucas will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Lucas throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Punyos tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lucas is in Punyos's guard.
Lucas with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Lucas stands up and waves to Punyos to follow him.
The fighters circling - Punyos throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Punyos displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lucas.
Manolito Punyos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Punyos throws a hook but Lucas blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Lucas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Punyos's guard.
Punyos is breathing heavily.

Manolito Punyos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lucas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Punyos throws a nice looking combination but Lucas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lucas tries to close the distance and clinch but Punyos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Manolito Punyos is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Punyos ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lucas moves away.
Lucas tries to counter with a takedown but Punyos is quick to defend against it.
Punyos stuffs the takedown.

Lucas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Punyos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Lucas misses with a takedown attempt - Punyos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Punyos appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

and Lucas counters with a single leg into guard. Punyos didn't expect that.
Punyos wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lucas manages to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.


Lucas decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Punyos defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lucas.

Punyos jabs at Lucas's body.
Punyos misses with a head kick.
Lucas feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Punyos clinches up with Lucas and pushes him back against the cage.

Punyos jumps guard but Lucas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Lucas keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Punyos's efforts to push away.

Lucas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eusebio Lucas will probably get the nod.

Punyos looks to land a right hand but Lucas moved out of range.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Punyos throws a counter combo.
Punyos throws a jab but it's blocked by Lucas.

Lucas darts in and clinches Punyos up against the cage.
Punyos has had enough of the clinch but Lucas keeps him there for the moment.
Come on Lucas - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Punyos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lucas unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Punyos jumps guard but Lucas stands there with Punyos around his waist. Punyos gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Punyos blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Lucas tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Punyos avoids it.
Lucas throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Punyos blocks it with crossed arms.
Lucas tries to throw a body punch but Punyos avoids it by throwing Lucas back against the cage.
Lucas is stalling here.
Punyos throws a punch but it's blocked by Lucas.
Punyos has had enough of the clinch but Lucas keeps him there for the moment.
Lucas tries to work over Punyos's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Lucas misses with a knee strike.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Lucas.
Punyos wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lucas effectively controlling the action here.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Punyos.
Punyos tries to break the clinch but Lucas is controlling the position.

Lucas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lucas slips a jab and a cross from Punyos.
Lucas shoots in for a double leg but Punyos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Manolito Punyos seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Lucas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Eusebio Lucas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lucas lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Punyos down.

Lucas is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Punyos is trying to escape and Lucas transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Punyos is forced to tap! Nice work there by Lucas! Very nice indeed!
