The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perkele throws a sloppy head kick and Sammich moves out of range easily.

and Sammich counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Sammich's coach down at Spar Bros was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Sammich's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Perkele is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Sammich connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

A telegraphed right hand from Perkele misses the target.

A head kick lands from Sammich that sends Perkele to the canvas. Perkele tries to scramble back to his feet but Sammich brings him back down into side control.

It looks like Itse Perkele has been cut.
Perkele tries to bench press Sammich off him but Sammich keeps the position.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee asks Sammich politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sammich prefers to stall for the moment though.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

It looked like Perkele wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Perkele is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sammich lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Perkele takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Perkele drops Sammich with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Sammich looks back up at him and smiles so Perkele waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Perkele wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Sammich is still on wobbly legs! Can Perkele finish him?
Sammich is breathing heavily.

Perkele is stalking Sammich. Sammich circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Perkele, and it's lights out! Sammich really payed the price for that rookie mistake.
