PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Donny Mendoza (ranked 6146 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tama Tonga (ranked 8176 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Tonga 's choice of entrance music: Lockjaw . Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendoza shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tonga 's guard.
Mendoza could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tonga lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tonga is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
It looks like Tonga might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tonga distracts Mendoza with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mendoza is looking for a sweep. Tonga is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Mendoza might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tonga winds up and cracks Mendoza with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Tonga remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
