PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight kickboxing rules bout between Joey Karate (ranked 3364 p4p, 405 weight class) and Minobu Kurita (ranked 4805 p4p, 512 weight class). Karate comes to the ring accompanied by Shot Em'. Kurita is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Game of Thrones. Minobu Kurita told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joey Karate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Minobu Kurita!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurita misses with a two punch combination.
Karate fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Karate looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Karate throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kurita on the side of the head.
Kurita throws out a loose jab but Karate uses good head movement to avoid it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Kurita breaks from the clinch.
Karate dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd cheers as Kurita lands an impressive looking overhand right. Karate doesn't seem phased though.
Kurita needs to keep his hands up - Karate had a free shot at his head there.

Karate has managed to clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Karate lands an elbow just above Kurita 's eye.

It looks like Minobu Kurita has been cut.
Kurita swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kurita wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
With the two fighters working up against the ropes, Karate just misses with a elbow thrown towards Kurita's brow.
Kurita can't break the clinch.
Karate lands a body punch.
Karate scores with a shoulder strike.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Karate.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karate stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Kurita breaks from the clinch.
A lazy left from Karate finds it's target.
Karate connects with the punch.
Minobu Kurita seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from Kurita. Those never looked like landing.
Karate avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kurita misses with a right hand
enabling Karate to counter with a crisp jab.
Kurita misses with a series of wild punches.
Karate fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kurita on the side of the head.
Kurita tries to move into range but Karate moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Kurita missing with a left hand there. Karate was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kurita swings widly with a right hand
letting Karate counter with a right hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karate gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Karate stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Kurita tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karate struggles to land a body shot inside as Kurita controls his hands.
Kurita dodges an elbow strike from Karate.
Kurita avoids a wild elbow strike from Karate.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Karate creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Kurita is rocked!
Kurita can't break the clinch.
Karate lands an elbow inside that Kurita shrugs off.
Kurita is still on wobbly legs! Can Karate finish him?
Karate breaks the clinch momentarily and cracks Kurita with a big right hook that drops him to the canvas! Kurita looks like he might be in big trouble here! The referee has started the count straight away and we're up to 5 already. Kurita get to one knee - can he make it back to his feet? No, he's flopped back to the mat - he's out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Joey Karate!
During a confident post fight interview, Joey Karate thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
In defeat, Minobu Kurita stepped up to the mic, saying 'Sayonara'.
