PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Murphy (ranked 7102 p4p, 478 weight class) and Donald Markham (ranked 22426 p4p, 566 weight class). Murphy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Battering Ram - 'Come Out and Fight' Irish Folk. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Donald Markham!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markham throws a right and a left that both miss.
Markham tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Murphy swivels and escapes.
We've been informed that Markham has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Murphy scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Markham is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Murphy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Markham tries to get to full guard but Murphy has control of the leg.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Markham is on top in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Markham pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Murphy gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Markham escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Markham takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Murphy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Markham tries to avoid it but Murphy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Markham to the ground. Markham escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

I would just about give that final round to Donald Markham.

After the fight, Daniel Murphy was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
