PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Todd Rodd (ranked 23337 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Kidman (ranked 8684 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kidman's choice of entrance music: You Can Run. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Todd Rodd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Billy Kidman!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodd tries to clinch but Kidman moves out of range.
Rodd throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Rodd tries to keep at a distance but Kidman has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kidman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kidman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rodd checks a leg kick.
Nice defenses there by Kidman.
Kidman feints the counter takedown.
Rodd looks to score with a jab to the body but Kidman is just out of range.

Kidman ducks under a wild hook from Rodd.
Kidman throws a head kick but Rodd moves out of range.
Rodd tries to clinch up.

Rodd closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodd tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kidman has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kidman's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Kidman lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Kidman successfully pulls guard.

Kidman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rodd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kidman thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Kidman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rodd manages to get himself to full guard.

Kidman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kidman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Kidman won't allow Rodd to sweep him here.

Kidman with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kidman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kidman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kidman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kidman throws a strike aimed at the side of Rodd's head but Rodd avoids it well.
Rodd knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kidman on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kidman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rodd to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rodd looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kidman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rodd tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Todd Rodd is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rodd just misses with a punch to the body.
Kidman shoots in and drives through. Rodd sprawls well.
Todd Rodd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rodd walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kidman checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Rodd tries to close the distance and clinch but Kidman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rodd looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rodd wants to clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kidman clinches up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Kidman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Rodd tries to clinch but Kidman moves away

and Kidman counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rodd!
Rodd tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Rodd tries to control Kidman's body but Kidman pushes him off. Rodd squirms to his side and now Kidman has his back!
Kidman keeps control of the position as Rodd tries to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Kidman lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Kidman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kidman is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Rodd is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Billy Kidman!
An out of breath Billy Kidman thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
