Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zac Sechler (ranked 4089 p4p, 469 weight class) and John Williamson (ranked 4090 p4p, 471 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zac Sechler!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Williamson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williamson checks the leg kick.

Williamson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sechler quickly recovers to half guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Williamson is keen to just control but Sechler is a slippery customer.
Sechler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sechler has his hands clasped together around Williamson's back. He's all about the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sechler throws a series of punches but Williamson avoids them all with ease.
Sechler misses with a takedown attempt - Williamson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Williamson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sechler is looking for a takedown.

Williamson is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Sechler is looking to control Williamson's arms but Williamson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Sechler has his back to the cage.

Williamson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Sechler has his foot on Williamson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Williamson works his way back into a safe position though.

Sechler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A close round but John Williamson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Sechler's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A decent looking body kick lands there for Williamson.
Williamson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Williamson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sechler swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Williamson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sechler has time to react.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Sechler crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Williamson - the referee stops the clock and Sechler gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Williamson. Sechler manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Zac Sechler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Sechler is wriggling around but Williamson manages to pass to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sechler tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Williamson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Williamson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Williamson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sechler feinted with a counter takedown.

Williamson feints and as Sechler raises his hands in defense, Williamson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sechler has control of Williamson's left arm, preventing Williamson from doing any damage.
Williamson wants to control from the top but Sechler keeps moving.

Sechler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williamson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williamson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sechler wants to hit a switch here but Williamson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sechler there!

Williamson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sechler is surviving well by controlling Williamson's body position as best he can.
Sechler is desperately trying to improve his position but Williamson has a good base and remains in mount.

Sechler tries to hold on but Williamson pushes him away.
Sechler is looking to get to half guard.
Williamson landing strikes, looking to finish!
Sechler is wriggling around trying to escape.
Williamson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Williamson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

John Williamson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Williamson throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Williamson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sechler shoots in for a takedown but Williamson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sechler tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Williamson smiles and moves away.

Williamson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sechler gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Sechler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sechler shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williamson as he jumps to the side.

Sechler tries to land knees in the clinch but Williamson avoids the damage to the body.
Sechler prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sechler manages to break the clinch.

Williamson fakes the leg kick and cracks Sechler in the body.

Williamson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Williamson leaves Sechler with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A close third round but John Williamson just about did enough to take it.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Williamson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sechler tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Williamson is in Sechler's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sechler looking for a sweep but Williamson has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Sechler is squirming around, avoiding Williamson's attempts to control the action.

Sechler is wriggling around trying to escape.
BOOM! Williamson connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Williamson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sechler can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sechler tries to reverse the position but Williamson maintains control.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Williamson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sechler manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
John Williamson seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sechler shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
It looks like Sechler is going to stand back up.
Sechler wants to free his trapped foot but Williamson is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Zac Sechler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Williamson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Williamson wants to control but Sechler is keeping busy.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Zac Sechler.
Well Williamson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
