TWGC 19 (155lbs, D1): Finals - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Dado Mata (ranked 729 p4p, 39 weight class) and Gustavo Santos (ranked 2126 p4p, 94 weight class). Mata comes to the cage accompanied by 和楽器バンド / 千本桜. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gustavo Santos was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 8 losses; Dado Mata! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Gustavo Santos!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Mata closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Santos quickly recovers to half guard.

Mata seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've been hearing good reports from Mata's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Santos working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
