Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shirley Hawkins (ranked 25089 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gennaro Pizzolo (ranked 6243 p4p, 0 weight class). Gennaro Pizzolo acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shirley Hawkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gennaro Pizzolo!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pizzolo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Pizzolo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Pizzolo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hawkins rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pizzolo's guard! Nice work there by Hawkins!
Hawkins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pizzolo is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Hawkins presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Hawkins wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hawkins prevents Pizzolo from breaking the clinch.

Pizzolo gets control of Hawkins's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pizzolo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Pizzolo wants to sweep here but Hawkins controlling him for the moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pizzolo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hawkins defends well.
Hawkins throws an elbow that misses. Pizzolo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hawkins's guard. Nice move by Pizzolo!

Pizzolo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hawkins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pizzolo has Hawkins in his guard.

Pizzolo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pizzolo wants to get back to full guard but Hawkins has mounted him!
Hawkins prevents Pizzolo from getting the reversal.
Pizzolo is bucking up trying to escape but Hawkins cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pizzolo tries to hold on but Hawkins postures up.
Hawkins fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Pizzolo tries to reverse the position but Hawkins maintains control.

Hawkins misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Pizzolo tries to lock up and control but Hawkins gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pizzolo sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Pizzolo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hawkins is working away from the top position though.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hawkins thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pizzolo's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shirley Hawkins will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Pizzolo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hawkins might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hawkins is trying to control Pizzolo's posture but Pizzolo avoids it.
Pizzolo tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Pizzolo decides to stand back up. Pizzolo steps back and let's Hawkins get back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pizzolo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pizzolo is working for a kimura but Hawkins is defending it quite comfortably.
Hawkins tries to roll over but Pizzolo keeps him under control.

Pizzolo tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pizzolo decides to stand back up.

Pizzolo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hawkins's guard.

Pizzolo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hawkins dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sloppy strikes from Pizzolo. Those never looked like landing.

Pizzolo is breathing heavily.
The ground and pound from Pizzolo seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hawkins can't do much from the bottom here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pizzolo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hawkins, who protects the arm well.
Pizzolo wants to control but Hawkins is keeping him busy.

Gennaro Pizzolo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pizzolo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gennaro Pizzolo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pizzolo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hawkins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pizzolo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pizzolo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hawkins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pizzolo defends it nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pizzolo tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawkins is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pizzolo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hawkins to the ground. Pizzolo is now in Hawkins's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hawkins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gennaro Pizzolo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pizzolo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
