PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cecil Silva (ranked 7982 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Proalta (ranked 6229 p4p, 286 weight class). Jake Proalta told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cecil Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Proalta!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Proalta tries to sprawl but Silva drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Proalta is looking to improve his position.
Proalta is pressing down on Silva's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Proalta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Proalta's legs - danger averted.
Proalta tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Proalta is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Proalta looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Silva has picked Proalta up and slammed him! Proalta can't keep hold of the triangle and Silva manages to pass to side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Proalta enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Proalta manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Silva is taking a breather. Proalta says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Proalta is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Silva's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Silva's back!
You can see the frustration on Silva's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Proalta on the ground.
Proalta is not going to allow Silva to sit and survive in this position.
Well, with Proalta on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Silva is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Silva is in a bad position with Proalta working for a choke. Silva manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

That was a close round but I would say that Cecil Silva will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Silva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Silva lands in his opponent's guard.

Proalta throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Silva escapes and throws Proalta's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Proalta is looking for a sweep.
A lull in the action here.
Silva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Proalta for as long as he can get away with.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Proalta tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it.
The referee asks Silva politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Silva prefers to stall for the moment though.

Proalta is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silva in particular looking to stall.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Silva is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Proalta can do to turn this around?

Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Proalta manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Silva has Proalta in his guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Silva loads up on a big right hand but Proalta slips the punch.

Proalta is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Silva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Silva lands in his opponent's guard.
Proalta not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Proalta is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.

Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Silva continues to stall.
Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Proalta is looking to cinch up a triangle. Silva throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Proalta's body to avoid the submission. Proalta has instead reached around Silva's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Proalta arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jake Proalta!
