Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Higo Higa!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Higa moves into the clinch successfully.
Higa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Higa landing knees to the body.
Higa lands a knee to the body.
Higa working Garcia over with knees to the body.
Garcia is trying to force a seperation but Higa has the dominant position.
Garcia is trying to break free.
Higa prevents Garcia from breaking the clinch.
Garcia takes an elbow to the temple.
Higa tries to throw a body punch but Garcia avoids it by throwing Higa back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Garcia's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Garcia is looking to break free of the clinch but Higa has double underhooks.
Garcia looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Higa landing knees to the body.

Garcia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Garcia waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Higa.
Garcia displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Higa.
Garcia stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Garcia wants it to stay on the feet.

Higa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Higa lands a knee to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Higa has Garcia pressed against the cage, preventing Garcia from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Higa lands a knee to the body.
Higa stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Garcia tries to break free but Higa pushes him back against the cage.
Garcia tries to circle away but Higa has him pinned against the cage.
Higa using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Garcia has had enough of the clinch but Higa keeps him there for the moment.

Higa pulls Garcia into guard.
Higa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Garcia's guard.

Garcia keeping moving, preventing Higa from controlling successfully.
Garcia is looking to stand up but Higa isn't so interested in that idea.
Higa trying to control but Garcia is working from the bottom.
Garcia keeping full guard, as Higa tries to pass.
Higa prevents Garcia from getting back to his feet.
Garcia can't keep his opponent in guard - Higa advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Higa lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Higa trying to control from half guard but Garcia is working away.

Higa seems to be looking for submissions.
Garcia is trying to stand back up but Higa is controlling him
Higa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Garcia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Garcia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Higa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Higa stops Garcia from getting back to his feet.

Higa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Higa passes to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Higa fails to move to back control.
Higa content just to control the position here.
We've been informed that Higa has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Garcia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Higa on the ground.
Garcia is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Higa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garcia is looking to escape.
Higa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Higa pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Higa trying to control but Garcia is having none of it.
Garcia looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Higa controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Garcia is trying to stand up.

Higa working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Garcia turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Higa off and cradles Garcia's limp body as Higa celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Higo Higa!
An out of breath Higo Higa thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
