PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lazuran Riku (ranked 1746 p4p, 192 weight class) and Conor McGregor (ranked 2558 p4p, 260 weight class). McGregor has chosen The Foggy Dew / El Chapo as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lazuran Riku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Conor McGregor!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGregor throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Riku uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McGregor.
Riku goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
McGregor flicks out a counter leg kick but Riku steps away.
McGregor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Riku checks a leg kick nicely.
Riku is looking to counter punch.
McGregor has a takedown stuffed.
Riku gets cracked with a nice right hand there by McGregor.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregor throws a right hand that misses
and Riku counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Riku.
McGregor just misses with a punch to the body.
McGregor has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Riku lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
McGregor steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Riku.
McGregor with the counter takedown but Riku avoids it easily.
McGregor misses with a low kick.
McGregor connects with an inside leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Riku, right into the meat.
Riku throws an overhand right that lands on McGregor's shoulder, as McGregor tries to avoid the shot.
McGregor tries a quick counter leg kick but Riku is wise to it.
McGregor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Riku but Riku pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Riku throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McGregor sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McGregor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Riku moves away.
Riku throws a big counter combination but McGregor scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Good leg kick by McGregor there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

A bone on bone clash there as McGregor blocks the leg kick.
McGregor misses with a takedown attempt - Riku sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lazuran Riku has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor McGregor.
McGregor misses with a hook. Riku ducked under it nicely.

McGregor throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McGregor dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Riku counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Riku bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of McGregor's head.
Riku lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McGregor throws a head kick that misses
and Riku counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
McGregor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
McGregor tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
McGregor scores with a nice right hand.

and McGregor takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

McGregor is rocked!
Riku chopping away at his opponent's legs.
McGregor is still on wobbly legs! Can Riku finish him?
Riku finds McGregor's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! McGregor flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Riku lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure McGregor will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Lazuran Riku!
Lazuran Riku tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
In defeat, Conor McGregor stepped up to the mic, saying 'You win or you learn. I am humble in victory or defeat, and I will be back.'.
