PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Leo Baranoski (ranked 6274 p4p, 469 weight class) and Sean McAodh (ranked 22783 p4p, 0 weight class). Baranoski comes into the arena with Hall of Fame blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leo Baranoski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sean McAodh!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baranoski shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. McAodh is trying to defend but Baranoski finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

McAodh has one foot on Baranoski's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
McAodh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
McAodh fails in his attempt to clinch.
McAodh looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Baranoski clobbers McAodh with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Baranoski scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Baranoski wants to pass the guard but McAodh is defending well.
McAodh wants to control but Baranoski is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Baranoski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

McAodh regains full guard. Nicely done.
Baranoski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Baranoski looking to sit in guard and control but McAodh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Baranoski knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McAodh on the ground.

Leo Baranoski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McAodh tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baranoski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McAodh doesn't manage to clinch there - Baranoski circles away.
Baranoski appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
McAodh moves in looking to clinch but Baranoski pushes him off.

and McAodh counters with a left and a right that stings Baranoski.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McAodh pulls Baranoski in to control the position.

McAodh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Baranoski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McAodh seems keen to control Baranoski's posture.
McAodh keeping moving, preventing Baranoski from controlling successfully.

McAodh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Baranoski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McAodh trying to keep a closed guard but Baranoski is proving a slippery customer.
Baranoski looking to sit in guard and control but McAodh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Baranoski is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McAodh wants to get up but he can't break Baranoski's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Baranoski is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. McAodh presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

McAodh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Baranoski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McAodh as he jumps to the side.

McAodh gets caught flat footed, as Baranoski shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Baranoski is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McAodh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Baranoski is one step ahead there.

McAodh looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
McAodh trying to control the position here.
Baranoski trying to control the position from guard on top but McAodh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sean McAodh will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Baranoski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and McAodh counters by clinching up.
Baranoski goes for a takedown in the clinch but McAodh prevents it.
Baranoski is trying to break the clinch but McAodh is controlling him.
McAodh lands an elbow just above Baranoski 's eye.


It looks like Leo Baranoski has been cut.
Baranoski has McAodh pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McAodh manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leo Baranoski. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baranoski wants a takedown but no success here.
McAodh is defending well against a takedown attempt.
McAodh can't find room to land a body shot as Baranoski controls the action.
Baranoski has McAodh pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McAodh manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

McAodh has hold of one of Baranoski's legs. Baranoski is fighting the takedown attempt but McAodh gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
McAodh is in close to Baranoski's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baranoski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McAodh pinned against the cage. McAodh gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

McAodh moves into the clinch successfully.

McAodh breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Leo Baranoski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Baranoski misses with a hook.
McAodh defending well as Baranoski loads up on a big left hand.

McAodh decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

McAodh wants to work for an arm triangle but Baranoski is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Baranoski is refusing to be controlled, as McAodh sits in half guard.
McAodh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McAodh slips a nice elbow through Baranoski's hands, connecting with Baranoski's forehead.

McAodh is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McAodh is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

McAodh trying to mount his opponent but Baranoski defends it.
Baranoski is staying active underneath McAodh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
McAodh has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McAodh is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Baranoski doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McAodh.
Sean McAodh has got the better of the ground game so far.
McAodh wants to control but Baranoski is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Baranoski is trying to stand.
McAodh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Baranoski is not content to let McAodh control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean McAodh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Baranoski shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McAodh manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

McAodh has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Baranoski off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

so McAodh counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
McAodh tries to stand but Baranoski is controlling from the bottom.
Baranoski on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Baranoski tries to get out of the position.

Baranoski can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McAodh controls the pace.

McAodh tries to free his leg and advance position but Baranoski is retaining full guard.
McAodh postures up in Baranoski's guard and throws a big left but Baranoski blocks it.

McAodh stands up and waves to Baranoski to follow him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Left hook, right uppercut from McAodh.
McAodh throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Baranoski stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Baranoski is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Baranoski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McAodh as he jumps to the side.
McAodh tries to counter by closing the distance.

McAodh shoots in and bounces Baranoski off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
McAodh is standing up over Baranoski. Baranoski looks to escape but McAodh dives into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McAodh is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Baranoski is not content to let McAodh control the position.
McAodh might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Baranoski haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

McAodh stands up and we're back to a striking position.
McAodh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
McAodh keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sean McAodh is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McAodh moves in looking to clinch but Baranoski pushes him off.
McAodh keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

McAodh moves into the clinch.
McAodh tries to throw a body punch but Baranoski avoids it by throwing McAodh back against the cage.

Baranoski is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. McAodh can't fight it off and eventually Baranoski manages to take the fight to the floor. McAodh looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Baranoski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McAodh swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sean McAodh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McAodh has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
