Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Richards (ranked 3636 p4p, 436 weight class) and Sito Sukiki (ranked 7458 p4p, 638 weight class). Richards comes to the cage accompanied by NF - Intro. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Richards!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sito Sukiki!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sukiki throws a predictable looking body shot

and Richards counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Richards is pressing down on Sukiki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sukiki is holding on for now.

Sukiki looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Richards seems content to control.
Richards's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richards looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

A looping hook to the body misses from Richards. Sukiki does a little dance to reset his feet.

Richards rushes Sukiki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sukiki is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Richards to keep the fight standing.
Richards lands a nice uppercut.

Richards's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Donk. Richards catches Sukiki right on the button with a cross.
Sukiki keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Richards is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Richards scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sukiki doesn't seem bothered though.

Richards has picked Sukiki up - he's going for a ride! Richards dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Richards wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Sukiki uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Sukiki is looking for a triangle but Richards pushes his legs off easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sukiki working for submissions but it's allowed Richards to get to half guard.
Richards uses his free foot to push down on Sukiki's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sukiki.

Richards stands up from mount. Strange move.
Richards throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sukiki staying out of range there.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sukiki wants to get back to striking at distance but Richards won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richards throws a hook but Sukiki avoids it easily.
Richards swings for the body but Sukiki moves out of range.
Sukiki tries to clinch up but Richards circles away and keeps his distance.
Richards tries to counter with a takedown but Sukiki is quick to defend against it.

Richards is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sukiki can do to turn this around?

I was talking to Richards's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Sukiki drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Richards manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sukiki has Richards in his guard.

Richards slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Richards misses with a hook. Sukiki ducked under it nicely.
Sukiki drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Richards defends it well.
Sukiki uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Richards.
And Sukiki tries to counter it with a takedown but Richards pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Sukiki has taken the fight to the clinch.
Richards lands a body punch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Richards.

Richards breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sukiki looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Richards stands up.
Richards loads up on a big right hand but Sukiki slips the punch.
Sukiki tries to clinch but Richards moves out of range.
James Richards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice straight punches there by Richards. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Richards.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Richards takes a swing at Sukiki's ribcage but misses.
Sukiki tries to clinch but Richards is having none of it.

Sukiki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Richards is trying to control the position but Sukiki postures up.
Richards is really struggling to control Sukiki but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Sukiki loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Richards working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sukiki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sukiki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Richards pulls Sukiki in close to his closed guard and prevents Sukiki from doing any damage or advancing position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sukiki is looking to advance position but Richards has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Richards is looking to stand but Sukiki has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Sukiki sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
It looks like Richards is going to stand back up.
Sukiki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Richards is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sukiki sees it coming and defends easily.

Richards will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Richards misses with a series of wild punches.
Richards ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sukiki moves away.
Sukiki follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Sukiki doesn't manage to clinch there - Richards circles away.
Richards seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Sukiki tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sukiki wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Richards has him pressed against the cage.

Richards escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sukiki has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Sukiki tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Richards pulls guard effortlessly.
Richards not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Sukiki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Richards swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sukiki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sukiki has gone for a leg lock! Richards slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sukiki's guard.

Richards stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sukiki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Richards wants to stand but Sukiki is controlling his posture from full guard.

Richards slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sukiki tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Richards stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That has opened up Sito Sukiki's cut even more.
Sukiki moves forwards but Richards connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Richards comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Sukiki moves in looking to clinch but Richards pushes him off.
Richards clobbers Sukiki with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Richards jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Sukiki is looking to clinch but Richards is avoiding it.
Richards misses with a series of wild punches.
James Richards is winning the standup battle so far.
Sukiki tries to clinch up but Richards circles away and keeps his distance.
Sukiki slips under a jab.

Richards moves into the clinch successfully.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Richards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Richards lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sukiki backwards.
Richards stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

A punch lands to the side of Sukiki 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Sukiki shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Richards counters with a nice uppercut.
Sukiki smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Richards misses with a wild body shot.
Sukiki gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Richards throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sukiki.
Sukiki tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Sukiki is still on wobbly legs! Can Richards finish him?
Richards lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Richards closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Richards gets control of Sukiki's arms and successfully pulls guard. Richards will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Sukiki drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Sukiki seems to have locked his on tight now - Richards screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Sukiki, as he picks up the win!
