Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chol-Hyon An (ranked 4808 p4p, 522 weight class) and Badou Baha (ranked 2056 p4p, 265 weight class). An comes to the cage accompanied by Aegukka (DPRK national anthem). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Badou Baha!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An tries for a takedown but Baha circles away easily
and Baha counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Baha throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Baha swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A cross from Baha lands.
An fails with an attempt to clinch.
Baha scores with a nice right hand.
An tries to clinch there but Baha circles away.
An tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baha paws at him with a jab and circles away.
An misses with a takedown attempt - Baha sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
An keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
An has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Dynasty K-1 Dojo in the buildup to the fight.
Baha tests An's chin there with a solid looking shot.
An wants to clinch.
Baha takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Baha misses with a few strikes there.

An looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Baha throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
An looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Baha misses with a series of wild punches.
Baha circles away from the clinch attempt.
An tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baha paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Baha cracks An with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Baha fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

An gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Chol-Hyon An seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baha throws a hook but An avoids it easily.
Baha throws out a loose jab but An uses good head movement to avoid it.
An moves in looking to clinch but Baha pushes him off.
An gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Baha connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
An is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
An thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Baha if he has to take too many more of those.

It looks like Chol-Hyon An has been cut.
Baha throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
An appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
An tries to clinch but Baha moves out of range.
Baha keeps the fight on the outside.
An tries to clinch but Baha is having none of it.
An swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

An is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Baha throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck An on the side of the head.
An uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Baha.
An tries to clinch but Baha is having none of it.
An tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baha paws at him with a jab and circles away.

An moves into range and clinches up with Baha.
An misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Baha manages to break the clinch.
An throws a leg kick but Baha moved away.
An keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Baha has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
An is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
An swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Baha dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
An throws a hook to the side of Baha's head but Baha sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Baha will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Baha is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! An had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Baha stuns An with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

An takes the fight into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
An misses with a punch on the inside.

Baha manages to break the clinch.
An tries to clinch up.
Baha lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Jab, jab by Baha - just one landing.
Nice uppercut there from Baha.
A jab from Baha does it's job there.


An is rocked!
An doesn't manage to clinch there - Baha circles away.
Oh An is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

An fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Baha sprawls well initially but An persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
An seems to have got his legs back now.
Baha is positioning himself well to prevent An advancing to mount.
Baha's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

An is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Baha is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Baha is trying to stand.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
An wants to free his trapped foot but Baha is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Baha is doing well to control the position and prevent An from advancing to side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Baha is pressing down on An's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
An wants to pass the guard but Baha is keeping the position.

and Baha connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Baha goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Baha misses with a body shot.
An lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by An.
Baha chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before An can pounce on him.

Baha swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

An closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Baha did well to prevent An getting side control.

Baha is defending against the submission attempts here by An.
An is breathing heavily.

Baha works his way to full guard. Good work.
Baha is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
An is looking to work some ground and pound but Baha has wrist control.
Baha wants to stand and escape but An is having none of it.
Baha lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Baha decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Baha jabs at An's body.

Oooooh!!! Baha has knocked An down with a huge combo! Baha steps away and waves a wobbly An back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Baha misses with the combination.
Baha scores with a jab. An acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
An moves out of range of the strikes.
An wants to clinch but Baha slips to the side

and Baha counters with a crisp one two that drops An! Baha thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves An to his feet! An is in big trouble!
An tries to clinch
and Baha counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! An has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Badou Baha!
Badou Baha is the new light heavyweight champion!
Badou Baha really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KOMBAT KLOTHING logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
Chol-Hyon An spoke after the fight, saying 'Forgiveness, preasuh.'.
