Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gerald Minor (ranked 629 p4p, 68 weight class) and Gary Tonon (ranked 506 p4p, 52 weight class). Tonon comes into a darkened arena with his song building. What About Now kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minor scores with a jab to the body.
Minor misses with a leg kick

and Tonon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Tonon wants to pass to mount but Minor is defending the position.
Minor tries to roll over but Tonon keeps him under control.
Minor is positioning himself well to prevent Tonon advancing to mount.

Tonon is working for a kimura but Minor is defending it quite comfortably.
Minor is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tonon trying to advance position but Minor counters by regaining guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tonon trying to control the position from guard on top but Minor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tonon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Tonon wants to control from the top but Minor keeps moving.
Tonon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Minor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Minor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tonon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Tonon avoids the body shot from Minor.
Tonon misses with a few strikes there.
Minor is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Tonon.
We've been hearing reports that Minor has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Minor is looking to chop away at Tonon's legs.
Tonon keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Tonon avoids the body shot from Minor.
Minor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tonon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Minor throws a leg kick but Tonon moved away.
Tonon drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Minor defends it well.
Minor shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tonon sprawls well. Tonon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Minor gets slowly back to his feet.

A looping hook to the body misses from Minor. Tonon does a little dance to reset his feet.
Minor tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tonon was well out of range. Poor timing from Minor.
Tonon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Minor circles away quickly and effectively.
Minor is looking to counter the offense by Tonon and move into the clinch.

and Tonon counters with a shoot takedown. Minor fights it but they end up in guard.

Tonon lands a couple of elbows.
Tonon wants to pass the guard but Minor is keeping the position.
Minor keeping moving, preventing Tonon from controlling successfully.
Tonon tries to free his leg and advance position but Minor is retaining full guard.
Tonon wants to control from the top but Minor keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Minor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Minor throws a strike aimed at the side of Tonon's head but Tonon avoids it well.
Tonon takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Minor cracks Tonon with a big right hand but Tonon just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Tonon is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Minor's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Minor is trying to control. Tonon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Minor stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Tonon throws up his legs and catches Minor in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Minor tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Tonon! That came out of nowhere!

After the fight, Gary Tonon was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
