Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Lawler (ranked 4458 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Steel (ranked 3527 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Lawler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Steel!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steel drives through and clinches with Lawler against the cage.
Lawler jumps guard but Steel turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Lawler has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Steel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lawler definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steel postures up in Lawler's guard and throws a big left but Lawler blocks it.

Lawler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lawler is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Steel manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Steel bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Lawler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lawler is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Steel pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Steel is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Steel's coach down at Play House was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Steel's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Lawler drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lawler or perhaps it was just good defense by Steel, which made it look bad.

Lawler ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lawler no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Lawler has his foot on Steel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Steel works his way back into a safe position though.

Lawler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steel's waist but Steel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lawler off to one side.
