PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Gilmore (ranked 1928 p4p, 248 weight class) and Gary The Reaper (ranked 881 p4p, 124 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Gilmore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary The Reaper!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilmore misses with a kick to the body

and The Reaper decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gilmore's guard.
The Reaper stands and throws Gilmore's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gilmore is not content to let The Reaper control the position.
The Reaper tries to score with some ground and pound. Gilmore controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gilmore tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but The Reaper wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The Reaper fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Gilmore is covering up but some of the strikes from The Reaper are getting through and doing damage.

Gilmore is trying to remain composed but The Reaper is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gilmore turns into The Reaper and is now in his guard.

The Reaper working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gilmore doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gilmore manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The Reaper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gilmore manages to get himself to full guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gilmore is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The Reaper is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gilmore loads up on a big right hand but The Reaper slips the punch.
And The Reaper tries to counter it with a takedown but Gilmore pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Gilmore gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The Reaper ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
The Reaper dives in for a single leg takedown but Gilmore sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

The Reaper clinches up with Gilmore and pushes him back against the cage.
Gilmore works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
The Reaper lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gilmore lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Gilmore misses with a body punch.

The Reaper tries to pull guard but Gilmore holds him up against the cage and eventually The Reaper drops back down to his feet.

Gilmore throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

The Reaper has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gilmore is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Anthony Gilmore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary The Reaper.
The Reaper tries to throw a body punch but Gilmore avoids it by throwing The Reaper back against the cage.
The Reaper lands a hook that snaps the head of Gilmore backwards.

A close second round but Gary The Reaper will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, The Reaper creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Gilmore is pressed up against the cage. The Reaper has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gilmore down to the mat. Gilmore avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

I've got The Reaper winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
