PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justin Coon (ranked 23175 p4p, 773 weight class) and Rod Marchand (ranked 9096 p4p, 703 weight class). Marchand has chosen Daisy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Justin Coon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rod Marchand!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coon rushes Marchand and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Coon creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Marchand's defenses.
Marchand drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Coon gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Marchand goes for a takedown in the clinch but Coon prevents it.
Coon comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Coon lands an elbow inside.
Marchand is looking to break free of the clinch but Coon has double underhooks.
Marchand drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Coon gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Justin Coon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rod Marchand.

Marchand is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Coon to keep the fight standing.

Marchand changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Coon fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Marchand postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Marchand working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Marchand swings around for an armbar but Coon sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Marchand's guard.

Marchand escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Coon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Marchand is trying to control the position but Coon postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Coon gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Marchand gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Marchand is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Coon defends it well.

Coon is pressed up against the cage. Marchand has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Coon down to the mat. Coon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Coon is trying to trip Marchand. He has hold of a leg but Marchand is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Coon persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Marchand dives in and grabs Coon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Coon pushes down on Marchand's head and hops out.

Coon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marchand has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Coon has managed to get both his arms back between Marchand's legs - danger averted.
