PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between DJ Cadillac (ranked 22104 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darryl Rose (ranked 3521 p4p, 431 weight class). Rose is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Mobb Deep - Shook ones. Darryl Rose told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose tries to move into range but Cadillac moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Rose takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Cadillac clobbers Rose with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Rose has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Cadillac lands with an uppercut that bounces Rose off the cage and back into range.
Cadillac throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rose throws out a counter right but Cadillac avoids it with no problem.
Rose keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rose changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Cadillac lands a jab to the head.

Rose feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rose really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cadillac. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rose wants to stand but Cadillac is controlling the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rose can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cadillac stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rose swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rose tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cadillac changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Cadillac lands with a hook. Rose tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cadillac cracks Rose with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Cadillac looks to land a right hand but Rose moved out of range.

Rose walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Cadillac thuds his right hand into Rose's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Rose rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cadillac moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cadillac takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cadillac gets caught napping as Rose dives in and scores a takedown. Cadillac manages to retain guard.
Cadillac pulls Rose in close to his closed guard and prevents Rose from doing any damage or advancing position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cadillac is on top in guard.

Rose goes for a double leg but Cadillac avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cadillac continues to drive forward.

Cadillac throws a jab but it's blocked by Rose.
DJ Cadillac seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Cadillac counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rose!
Rose tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cadillac wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cadillac works to advance to full mount. Rose defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cadillac seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rose for as long as he can get away with.

Rose throws a looping overhand right but Cadillac ducks down to avoid it.
A little feinted left hand from Cadillac on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
