PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connor Mclendon (ranked 4638 p4p, 472 weight class) and Armando Garcilazo (ranked 6555 p4p, 580 weight class). Armando Garcilazo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Connor Mclendon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armando Garcilazo!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mclendon slips a jab and a cross from Garcilazo.
Mclendon has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Garcilazo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mclendon as he avoids it easily.
Mclendon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Garcilazo was well out of range. Poor timing from Mclendon.
A combination from Mclendon does no damage.
Mclendon swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Garcilazo.

Garcilazo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Mclendon has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Garcilazo is on him like a limpet, forcing Mclendon back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Garcilazo pulls Mclendon into guard.
Mclendon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mclendon stopping the sweep attempt from Garcilazo.
Mclendon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mclendon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Garcilazo wants to sweep but no luck.
Mclendon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Garcilazo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mclendon stacks Garcilazo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mclendon!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Mclendon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Garcilazo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Garcilazo is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mclendon is controlling him well.
Garcilazo tries to buck Mclendon off but Mclendon is having none of it.
Garcilazo takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Garcilazo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mclendon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mclendon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mclendon lands a nice forearm strike.
Mclendon working the head and body with strikes.
Garcilazo seems a little lost for a moment, as Mclendon dominates the positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mclendon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Garcilazo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Garcilazo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mclendon off and has taken his back!

Garcilazo thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Mclendon is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Mclendon rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Mclendon wants to get back to full guard.
Mclendon has his hands clasped together around Garcilazo's back. He's all about the action.
Garcilazo stalling away here and it's allowed Mclendon to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Connor Mclendon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Garcilazo drives through and clinches with Mclendon against the cage.

Garcilazo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mclendon passes into half guard.

Mclendon is working for a submission of some sort.
Garcilazo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mclendon is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mclendon controlling the action here.

Mclendon landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Garcilazo wants to improve his position but Mclendon is controlling well.

Mclendon seems to be working for a kimura but Garcilazo defends the submission attempt.

Mclendon looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Mclendon slips a nice elbow through Garcilazo's hands, connecting with Garcilazo's forehead.
Garcilazo tries to get to full guard but Mclendon has control of the leg.
Mclendon is thwarting Garcilazo's attempts to control the position.
Garcilazo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Garcilazo looks like he's trying to stand up.

The fighters are battling for position here. Garcilazo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Garcilazo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mclendon is one step ahead there.
Garcilazo throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Connor Mclendon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Mclendon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Garcilazo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mclendon just content to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mclendon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Garcilazo, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Connor Mclendon dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Mclendon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mclendon wants it to stay on the feet.
Mclendon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mclendon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Garcilazo can do to turn this around?
Garcilazo tries to clinch there but Mclendon circles away.

Garcilazo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mclendon to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Garcilazo is looking to stand back up but Mclendon counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Garcilazo.


Mclendon moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Garcilazo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garcilazo is trying to get back to half guard.

Mclendon tries for a kimura but Garcilazo is defending well.
Mclendon works to advance to full mount. Garcilazo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Garcilazo tries to improve his position but Mclendon has taken his back! Mclendon has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Garcilazo tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Mclendon pushes Garcilazo away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Connor Mclendon!
