PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Shirahama (ranked 1359 p4p, 31 weight class) and Mr Joshua (ranked 1732 p4p, 37 weight class). Joshua is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Problem Child. Mr Joshua will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Shirahama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mr Joshua!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Joshua lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Shirahama throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Joshua.

Mr Joshua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Shirahama shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shirahama was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Shirahama creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Joshua sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Mr Joshua is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The strikes coming from Shirahama are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carlos Shirahama.
I think Joshua has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
