PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kuba Kowalski (ranked 5836 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Visman (ranked 6126 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kuba Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Connor Visman!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kowalski clinches up against the cage.

Visman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Visman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kowalski decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kowalski wants to advance to full mount but Visman doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Kowalski's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Visman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Visman pulls Kowalski in close to prevent any damage.

Kowalski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Visman moves into range and clinches up with Kowalski.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Visman gets through Kowalski's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Visman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Visman misses with a body shot.
Visman shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalski sprawls well. He's pushed Visman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Visman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kowalski's waist but Kowalski gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Visman off to one side.
Kuba Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Connor Visman.
Visman shoots for a takedown but Kowalski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kowalski half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
An inside leg kick lands from Visman.

Kowalski feints and as Visman raises his hands in defense, Kowalski changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kowalski seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well, if Kowalski is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Visman tries to kick Kowalski off but Kowalski keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kowalski is looking to advance position but Visman won't allow it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kowalski has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Visman stuffs the takedown attempt from Kowalski. Kowalski gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kowalski dives in and grabs Visman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Visman pushes down on Kowalski's head and hops out.
Kowalski is breathing heavily.
Visman scores with a jab to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kuba Kowalski will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Visman tries to score with some ground and pound. Kowalski controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Visman stands up.
Kowalski fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Visman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kowalski sprawls well. Kowalski wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Visman gets slowly back to his feet.

and Visman counters with a series of strikes. Kowalski will be more careful next time no doubt.
Visman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Visman.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Visman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kowalski defends well and Visman ends up having to push Kowalski into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Visman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kowalski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Visman somewhat.

Kowalski's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kowalski takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Visman moves into range and clinches up with Kowalski.

Visman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kowalski is one step ahead there.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Connor Visman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kowalski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Visman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Visman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kowalski seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Visman for as long as he can get away with.
Visman tries to lock up and control but Kowalski gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Visman might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kowalski haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Kowalski takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
