PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kenneth Pierce (ranked 6233 p4p, 280 weight class) and Jose Sanchez (ranked 3951 p4p, 203 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenneth Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez gets caught flat footed, as Pierce shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sanchez controlling the position.
Pierce pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanchez is keeping the position for now.
Pierce working some strikes from top position.
Pierce stands and throws Sanchez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pierce wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working.
Pierce lands a nice forearm strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sanchez is trying to get back to his feet.

Pierce tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sanchez's legs.

Pierce decides to stand back up.
Sanchez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sanchez shoots in and gets a takedown into Pierce's guard.
Sanchez is fighting to break Pierce's control of his arms but Pierce is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Pierce keeps moving.

Pierce is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Pierce trying to control the position.
Pierce is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sanchez landing some decent shots from guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sanchez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sanchez tries to stand but Pierce is controlling from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Pierce with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pierce as he jumps to the side.
Sanchez looks winded!

Pierce closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sanchez's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pierce is looking to stand up but Sanchez won't let him.

Pierce drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pierce jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Pierce scoring with punches to the head and body.
Pierce wants to get up but he can't break Sanchez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Pierce chips away with some ground and pound.

Sanchez is working an open guard so Pierce takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Pierce lands a nice shot that snaps Sanchez's head back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pierce feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pierce shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pierce was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Pierce looking to control but instead Sanchez has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Sanchez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pierce pulls his head out easily.
Pierce wants to control but Sanchez is keeping him busy.
Sanchez trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Pierce manages to pass to mount!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez is trying to escape the mount.

Sanchez is squirming around, avoiding Pierce's attempts to control the action.
Kenneth Pierce overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pierce landing strikes from the mount.

Pierce working for a guillotine from mount but Sanchez is in no mood to give up.
Sanchez wants to control but Pierce is having none of it.
Sanchez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Pierce is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Sanchez holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Sanchez is not content to let Pierce control the position.
Sanchez wants to get back to full guard but Pierce has mounted him!
Pierce looking to finish Sanchez with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sanchez!
Pierce trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Pierce is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sanchez can do to turn this around?

Sanchez is looking to improve his position but Pierce isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierce looking to control and managing it successfully.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pierce looking to control but Sanchez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Sanchez is looking to improve his position but Pierce isn't that keen on the idea.
Pierce in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Pierce blocks Sanchez's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Sanchez tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sanchez wants to control but Pierce is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sanchez tries for a takedown but Pierce sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pierce pivots, looking for a leg kick but Sanchez is out of range and Pierce settles back down.
Sanchez shoots in looking for a takedown but Pierce manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sanchez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sanchez catches Pierce with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Pierce takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Pierce shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Sanchez manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pierce fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sanchez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sanchez manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Pierce ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pierce no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Pierce looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Sanchez is sitting in close to Pierce's body. Pierce has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Sanchez is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Sanchez is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Pierce.
