Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Travis Brookes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Merrill Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brookes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Brookes showed some decent athleticism there.

Wilson kicks Brookes off and gets back to his feet.
Wilson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Brookes counters with a left and a right that stings Wilson.

Brookes has closed the distance and engaged Wilson in a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brookes prevents the takedown attempt.

Brookes lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Wilson pushes Brookes off but Brookes dives into side control.
Brookes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brookes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brookes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Brookes closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wilson did well to prevent Brookes getting side control.

Brookes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Brookes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Travis Brookes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brookes stands up and beckons Wilson to his feet.

Brookes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wilson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Brookes is in Wilson's guard.

Brookes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wilson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Brookes has picked Wilson up - he's going for a ride! Brookes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Brookes has Wilson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Brookes pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wilson tumbling to the mat - Brookes dives into Wilson's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brookes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Travis Brookes showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brookes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
