Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bayley Springfield!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields tries to score a power double leg takedown but Springfield sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shields somewhat.
Despite the aggression on Springfield's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Springfield moves in looking to clinch but Shields pushes him off.
Shields tries to counter by clinching up but Springfield breaks away and moves out of range.
Bayley Springfield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Springfield tries a head kick but it misses.
Shields dives in and grabs Springfield's left leg, looking for a takedown. Springfield pushes down on Shields's head and hops out.
Shields could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A decent looking cross lands there for Springfield.


It looks like Omar Shields has been cut.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Springfield remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Shields knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Springfield on the ground.
