Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rico Balboa (ranked 6157 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomokazu Ogawa (ranked 6258 p4p, 457 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tomokazu Ogawa!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ogawa gets tackled into the cage by Balboa. Balboa maintains the clinch.

Balboa ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Balboa no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Balboa tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Balboa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ogawa defends it easily.

Balboa is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ogawa dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Balboa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ogawa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Balboa is trying to control Ogawa's posture but Ogawa avoids it.

Ogawa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Balboa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Balboa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ogawa on the ground.

Ogawa is looking to take a break and control but Balboa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ogawa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Balboa has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ogawa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Balboa, who protects the arm well.
Balboa is trying to work for a sweep but Ogawa has mounted him!

Ogawa has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Balboa's face.
Balboa wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Ogawa might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Balboa haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Balboa just trying to survive but Ogawa is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Balboa is trying to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomokazu Ogawa dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Balboa is looking to clinch.
Ogawa looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ogawa! But no joy.
Balboa closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ogawa circles away.
Balboa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ogawa manages to avoid it.
Ogawa is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Balboa with a body shot.
Balboa lands a head kick. Ogawa smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Ogawa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ogawa tries to circle away but Balboa has him pinned against the cage.
Ogawa wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ogawa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Balboa is just riding it out for now. Ogawa eventually gives up the hold.

Balboa is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Ogawa takes Balboa's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Balboa is in trouble.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ogawa wants to control but Balboa is keeping busy.

Tomokazu Ogawa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Ogawa counters with a stiff right hand.

and Ogawa counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Ogawa counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
No luck for Balboa with that takedown attempt.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Balboa.
Rico Balboa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Balboa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ogawa tries to avoid it but Balboa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ogawa to the ground. Ogawa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A little jabbing left from Ogawa on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

and Ogawa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Ogawa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Balboa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ogawa as he jumps to the side.

Balboa shoots in looking for a takedown. Ogawa tries to sprawl out of it but Balboa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ogawa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ogawa throws out a counter right but Balboa avoids it with no problem.
Rico Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Ogawa counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Balboa shoots in looking for a takedown but Ogawa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Balboa's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Balboa wants to clinch
and Ogawa counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tomokazu Ogawa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ogawa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
