Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mark Merel (ranked 1910 p4p, 249 weight class) and Danny Tucker (ranked 3152 p4p, 379 weight class). Danny Tucker is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Merel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Tucker!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merel listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Merel scores with a sloppy right hand. Tucker should have avoided that one.
The fighters circle momentarily. Tucker darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Tucker uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Merel.
Merel getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Tucker moves away from the strike by Merel.
Merel avoids the body shot from Tucker.
Tucker fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Merel manages to avoid it.
No luck for Merel with that takedown attempt.
Merel looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Merel connects with the punch.
Tucker looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Tucker misses with an attempted mid kick.
It looked like Merel wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Tucker connects with a good right hand that stumbles Merel. Merel circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Merel moves out of range as Tucker strikes.
Merel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tucker defends it nicely.

Merel uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tucker.
Merel is looking to counter punch.
Merel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tucker sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Tucker counters with a thumping low kick.
Merel throws a hook but Tucker avoids it easily.
And Tucker responds with a good body kick, but Merel manages to step out the way in time.

Tucker digs a right hand underneath Merel's ribcage. Merel let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Merel cracks Tucker with a nice body shot.
Merel lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Tucker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Merel gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Merel is rocked!
Danny Tucker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Merel misses with an uppercut. Tucker saw that one coming.
Oh Merel is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tucker tries to land a front kick but Merel steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Merel half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Merel seems to have got his legs back now.
Tucker throws a hook but Merel blocks it.
Merel misses with a wild body shot.
Merel lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Merel clinches up with Tucker and pushes him back against the cage.
Merel has a couple of punches blocked by Tucker.

Tucker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Tucker cracks Merel with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Merel looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Tucker finish him?
Merel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Merel lands with a straight right. Tucker didn't see that one coming.
Tucker keeps the fight on the outside.

Merel moves into the clinch.
Merel lands a nice uppercut.
Tucker misses with a short punch on the inside.
Merel has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Tucker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Tucker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tucker with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Tucker attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Merel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tucker.

Merel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Merel sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Merel working over Tucker with some ground and pound. Tucker looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Merel works his foot free and advances to mount.
Merel throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Tucker is bucking up trying to escape but Merel cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Merel goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Tucker is on top in guard.
Tucker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Merel looking for a sweep. Not yet Merel, not yet.

Merel has his foot on Tucker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tucker works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tucker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Merel is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Merel looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Tucker has picked Merel up and slammed him! Merel can't keep hold of the triangle and Tucker manages to pass to side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Tucker throws an overhand right that lands on Merel's shoulder, as Merel tries to avoid the shot.

Merel rushes Tucker and presses him up against the cage.
Tucker misses with a shot to the kidneys.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Merel creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Tucker misses with a hook to the ribs.
Merel's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Tucker lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Merel or not.
Tucker misses with a hook from the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Tucker scores with a nice short uppercut.
Merel swings wildly with an uppercut but Tucker uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tucker misses with a punch on the inside.
Merel is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Tucker is defending well.
Merel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tucker walks away with a smile on his face. Merel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Danny Tucker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tucker is looking to score with low kicks.
Merel takes a shot right to the bread basket.
An inside leg kick from Tucker misses.
Tucker throws a leg kick but Merel sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Merel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tucker as he jumps to the side.

Tucker lands a big right hand that sends Merel crashing to the mat! Tucker stays standing though and waves Merel back to his feet!


It looks like Mark Merel has been cut.
Tucker misses the jab.
Tucker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Merel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Merel showed some decent athleticism there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are battling for position here. Tucker manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Tucker looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Merel throws a big elbow that misses.
Merel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tucker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mark Merel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tucker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Merel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tucker was well out of range. Poor timing from Merel.

and Merel counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Merel avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Merel tries to clinch up but Tucker circles away and keeps his distance.
Tucker walks into a left hand.
Merel is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Tucker throws an overhand right that lands on Merel's shoulder, as Merel tries to avoid the shot.

Tucker swats away the attempt to clinch by Merel.
Tucker stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tucker.
Merel is looking to clinch but Tucker is avoiding it.
Tucker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Merel.
Merel connects with a body shot that sends Tucker's belly button to the back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tucker catches Merel with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Merel tries to clinch up but Tucker circles away and keeps his distance.

and Merel counters with a single leg into guard. Tucker didn't expect that.

Tucker has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Merel off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Tucker throws out a powerful jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Tucker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Mark Merel's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Tucker displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Merel throws out the jab.
Merel is looking to clinch.
