PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dan Sergeant (ranked 2295 p4p, 111 weight class) and Rex Ruger (ranked 2744 p4p, 136 weight class). The key to victory for Dan Sergeant has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Sergeant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Ruger!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruger shoots in and drives through. Sergeant sprawls well.

Ruger fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sergeant to the ground. Ruger is now in Sergeant's guard.
Sergeant on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sergeant tries to get out of the position.
Sergeant is looking to sweep but instead, Ruger has passed into half guard.

Sergeant has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ruger is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sergeant with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ruger seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sergeant does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

My spies in All Star Performance Institute inform me that Ruger has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sergeant shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruger sprawls well. Ruger wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sergeant gets slowly back to his feet.

Ruger feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
