Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Neil Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Buzz Meeks!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Meeks. Meeks maintains the clinch.
Meeks tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Meeks can't find room to land a body shot as Diaz controls the action.
Meeks lands a left hand.
Meeks misses with a punch to the body.
Diaz gets through Meeks's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Diaz misses with a punch to the body.
Meeks takes a shot to the head.
Diaz blocking some punches.
A short right from Meeks.
A nice left hand lands by Diaz.
Meeks avoiding damage as Diaz throws knees to the body.
Diaz misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A head punch on the inside from Diaz fails to land.
I was talking to Diaz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Meeks doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Meeks misses with a body punch.
Meeks tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Diaz jumps guard and drags Meeks to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Meeks content to stall in guard here.

Meeks is continuing to stall.
Meeks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Meeks controls from within his opponent's guard.
Meeks is looking to stand up but Diaz won't let him.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meeks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Meeks tries to clinch up but Diaz circles away and keeps his distance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Diaz lands with a short shot to the head.
Meeks lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Diaz or not.
Meeks on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Meeks looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Diaz can't find room to land a body shot as Meeks controls the action.
Diaz fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Diaz tries a body shot but Meeks blocks it.

Diaz misses with a short punch on the inside.

Meeks tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Diaz's elbow.
Diaz tries to throw a body punch but Meeks avoids it by throwing Diaz back against the cage.

Meeks escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Buzz Meeks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz misses with a wild body shot.
Diaz throws a head kick but Meeks moves out of range.
Meeks tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Meeks doesn't manage to clinch there - Diaz circles away.

Diaz tries to throw a body punch but Meeks avoids it by throwing Diaz back against the cage.
Meeks misses with a punch to the body.
Meeks blocks a body shot from Diaz.
Diaz misses with some punches.
Meeks scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Diaz lands with a light punch inside.
Meeks lands with a short shot to the head.

Diaz is rocked!
Meeks misses with some punches.
Oh Diaz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Meeks lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Meeks misses with some punches.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Meeks obliges.
Diaz tries to work over Meeks's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Meeks creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Diaz with a big uppercut! Diaz tries to clinch up but Meeks pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Diaz to the mat! Diaz covers up and Meeks unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Buzz Meeks!
A less than humble Buzz Meeks misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
