PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Fda (ranked 490 p4p, 56 weight class) and Matt Quin (ranked 292 p4p, 31 weight class). Fda comes to the cage accompanied by Hate Me Now. Quin is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Captain Jack - Iko Iko. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fda just misses with a punch to the body.
Quin avoids the body shot from Fda.
Quin digs a good body shot into Fda's ribs.
Quin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fda moves away.
Quin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fda swings for the body but Quin moves out of range.
Quin throws a hook but Fda avoids it easily.
Quin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A jab from Fda finds it's way through Quin's defenses.
Fda loads up on a big right hand but Quin slips the punch.
Fda doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Quin throws a hook but Fda blocks it.
Nice straight punches there by Quin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Quin.
Quin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fda.

Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Quin tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Fda's elbow.
Fda tries to work over Quin's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Fda struggles to land a body shot inside as Quin controls his hands.

Fda avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A quick step to the side and Fda tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fda misses with a wild body shot.
Fda throws a push kick but Quin slaps the foot to one side.
As Fda backs off Quin throws a huge counter combo but Fda manages to avoid it all.
Quin darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Fda takes a swing at Quin's ribcage but misses.
Quin throws a jab but it's blocked by Fda.
Fda steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Quin.
Fda is looking to wear down Quin with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Quin cracks a nice hook into Fda's ribs.
Quin throws a lazy right hand but Fda sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Fda with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Fda throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Quin lands with a hook. Fda tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Fda misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quin.
Quin scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Quin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fda manages to avoid it.
Quin tests Fda's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fda takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Fda has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Quin finds it's way round the side to connect with Fda's head.

Fda throws a body shot but no joy.
Quin is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Fda with a body shot.
Quin is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Quin shoots in but Fda avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fda misses with a straight left.
Fda misses with a kick to the body.
Quin with the counter takedown but Fda avoids it easily.
Fda throws a good cross that connects.

Quin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fda might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Quin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Quin wants to work for an arm triangle but Fda is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Quin is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Fda still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Fda has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Fda fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Quin.

Quin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fda has escaped the position, nice work there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fda is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Quin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Fda has hold of Quin's hands but Quin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Quin wants to pass the guard but Fda is defending well.
Quin is keen to just control but Fda is a slippery customer.

Matt Quin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Quin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fda quickly recovers to half guard.
Fda manages to get to full guard.
Quin advances to half guard.
Quin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fda is trying to maintain the position but Quin is very close to passing his half guard.
Quin drops an elbow to the side of Fda's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Quin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Fda tries to get to full guard but Quin has control of the leg.

Quin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Quin lands a nice short elbow.
Quin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Quin is working for a submission of some sort.

Chris Fda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Quin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Quin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Quin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Fda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Quin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Quin is looking for a kimura but Fda is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Quin to get the leverage.
Fda wants to improve his position but Quin is controlling well.
Fda landing small, sideways elbows.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fda is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Quin works his way into full mount!
Quin lands a nice shot to the head.
Quin looking to control but Fda is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Quin blocks Fda's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Quin raining down hammerfists from mount.
The referee warns Fda that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Matt Quin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Quin winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
