PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Power (ranked 3100 p4p, 391 weight class) and Adriano Conte (ranked 2979 p4p, 376 weight class). Conte has chosen Giuseppe Verdi - Requiem as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Conte is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Power is aware though and is defending well.

Conte has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Power can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Conte has his foot on Power's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Power works his way back into a safe position though.
Conte wants to sweep here but Power controlling him for the moment.
Power has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Conte is on top in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Conte's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Power knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Conte on the ground.

Conte cracks Power with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Power holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Conte tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Conte has control of Power's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Power regains control of the situation pretty easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Conte lands a big shot there that rocks Power but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Conte is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Power has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Adriano Conte dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Power throws a big shot that misses.
Power swings for the body but Conte moves out of range.
Conte lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Power definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Power throws a lazy right hand but Conte sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Power throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Conte appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

It looks like Max Power has been cut.
Power throws a hook to the side of Conte's head but Conte sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Conte lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Power lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Power shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Conte eats them both and turns towards Power to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Power is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Conte is defending well for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
