PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alfred Shields (ranked 5572 p4p, 505 weight class) and Wale Ammond (ranked 5240 p4p, 490 weight class). Ammond comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bad kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alfred Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wale Ammond!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Shields does no damage.

Ammond rushes Shields and presses him up against the cage.
Shields takes an elbow to the forehead.
Ammond looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ammond pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Ammond looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Ammond prevents the takedown attempt.
Shields taking a breather.
Shields has Ammond pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ammond manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Shields blocks an elbow strike.
Ammond lands a nice elbow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shields jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ammond walks away with a smile on his face. Shields gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Shields throws a nice looking combination but Ammond bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Shields tries to close the distance and clinch but Ammond swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ammond fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shields, pushing him back against the cage.

Shields avoids the elbow strike from Ammond, against the cage.
Ammond creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Ammond slowing the pace effectively.

Ammond won't allow Shields to get back to his feet.
Shields can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ammond controls the pace.
Shields is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ammond is controlling him.

Ammond has gone for a leg lock! Shields slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ammond's guard.

Shields is fighting to break Ammond's control of his arms but Ammond is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Shields has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ammond lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ammond stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shields swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shields tries to kick Ammond off but Ammond keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Shields keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ammond is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Ammond is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Shields has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Shields!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ammond holds on and takes a little breather.

Shields is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Shields is fighting to break Ammond's control of his arms but Ammond is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Let's hope that Ammond has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ammond working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shields doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shields manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wale Ammond showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ammond is on top in guard.
