PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mateusz Biernat (ranked 4283 p4p, 335 weight class) and Travis Brookes (ranked 4349 p4p, 338 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Biernat might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Someday. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Mateusz Biernat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Travis Brookes!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brookes uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Biernat is trying hard to land a takedown here. Brookes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Brookes tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Brookes digs a good hook to Biernat's body.

Brookes shoots for a takedown but Biernat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brookes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Biernat as he jumps to the side.

Biernat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brookes tries to avoid it but Biernat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brookes to the ground. Brookes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Brookes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Horrible takedown attempt by Brookes or perhaps it was just good defense by Biernat, which made it look bad.
Biernat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Biernat is trying to control the action in half guard but Brookes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Biernat is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brookes is just riding it out for now. Biernat eventually gives up the hold.
Biernat looks to land a strike but Brookes avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Biernat wants to get up but he can't break Brookes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Biernat loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Biernat slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Biernat throws an elbow that misses. Brookes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Biernat's guard. Nice move by Brookes!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Biernat throws his legs up looking for a submission but Brookes uses it to pass to side control.

Brookes swings around for an armbar but Biernat sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Brookes's guard.

Biernat is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Biernat stands up over Brookes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Biernat is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Biernat keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Brookes's head.
Biernat is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Biernat postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brookes is on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Travis Brookes will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Brookes wants to take the fight to the mat but Biernat manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Biernat is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Brookes pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Biernat breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Biernat throws a front kick that sends Brookes stumbling back into the cage.
Biernat dives in and grabs Brookes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brookes pushes down on Biernat's head and hops out.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Biernat is just content to waste time from the top position. Brookes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Brookes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Biernat is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brookes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mateusz Biernat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Biernat in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Brookes looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Biernat turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
