Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Paddington (ranked 884 p4p, 93 weight class) and Damen Mayer (ranked 294 p4p, 40 weight class). Paddington comes to the cage accompanied by Broken - Next time around. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Paddington!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Damen Mayer!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Paddington throws a hook but Mayer avoids it easily.
Mayer changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

A telegraphed right hand from Paddington misses the target.
Mayer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Paddington is fending him off so far but Mayer persists. Nope, Paddington circles away and we're back to standing.
Mayer shoots in looking for a takedown but Paddington manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mayer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mayer shoots in for a takedown but Paddington shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mayer working away.
Paddington tries to improve position but can't.

Mayer is trying to get an arm triangle but Paddington is defending well.
Mayer moves into full mount!

Mayer is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Paddington has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mayer goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Paddington turns into him and now he's in Mayer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mayer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Paddington looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Paddington looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Paddington!

Mayer has his foot on Paddington's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Paddington works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mayer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mayer is on top in guard.


Paddington had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mayer defends it easily.

Mayer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Paddington dives on top into guard.

Mayer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Paddington defends well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mayer is on top in guard.

Paddington is trying to maintain the position but Mayer is very close to passing his half guard.
Mayer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Paddington knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
My spies in Holding Cell inform me that Mayer has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Mayer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Paddington is just riding it out for now. Mayer eventually gives up the hold.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mayer wants to finish this one by submission but Paddington is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mayer.

Mayer is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Paddington is surviving well by controlling Mayer's body position as best he can.
Damen Mayer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mayer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Paddington can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Paddington stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mayer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That was a close round but David Paddington did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

Mayer is cranking Paddington's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Paddington! He's tightened the choke and Paddington is tapping out!
