Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miroslav Walker (ranked 3697 p4p, 438 weight class) and Conor Ward (ranked 5916 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miroslav Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Conor Ward!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ward finds it's way round the side to connect with Walker's head.
Ward looks for a takedown but Walker sprawls well.
Walker ducks right into an uppercut from Ward.
Walker misses with a kick to the body.
Ward misses with a leg kick

and Walker moves into the clinch.

Walker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Walker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ward quickly recovers to half guard.
Walker lands with a punch from half guard.
Ward wants to improve his position but Walker is controlling well.
Walker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Walker is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ward trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Walker lands a couple of good shots and Ward has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Walker gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Ward is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Walker is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ward defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Ward is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Walker.

Ward breaks Walker's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Ward postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Walker is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ward, into his guard.

Walker makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ward is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ward is fighting to break Walker's control of his arms but Walker is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Walker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Walker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Walker is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ward is looking to regain half guard here but Walker keeps moving and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miroslav Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ward is really stuck here.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Walker is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Ward has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
What can Ward do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Walker has Ward flattened out and is raining down punches.
Ward wants to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Ward looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Walker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ward for as long as he can get away with.
Walker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Walker connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ward some visible discomfort.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Walker.
Walker gets to mount! Ward was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Walker pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
BOOM! Walker connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Ward can't escape the position.
Walker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
