Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brook Harris !
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leonardo Konate!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris rushes Konate and presses him up against the cage.
Konate escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Harris takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Konate scoring well with a low kick there.
Harris has closed the distance and engaged Konate in a clinch.
Konate breaks the clinch.
Konate tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Harris clinches up with Konate and pushes him back against the cage.
Konate wants to break free but Harris has control.
Harris tries a knee to the head but Konate blocks it.
Harris is trying to pull guard but Konate has him pressed against the cage.
Konate wants to break the clinch but can't.
Harris breaks the clinch.
Konate moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Brook Harris has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Konate lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Harris backs up against the cage.
Harris will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Harris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Konate is fending him off so far but Harris persists. Nope, Konate circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice body punch from Konate.
Konate avoids a punch combination nicely.
Konate lands a jab.
Konate throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Konate lands with a nice body kick.
Harris is breathing heavily.
Konate lands a left and a right that send Harris crashing to the mat, dazed. Konate thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Harris is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Konate has cracked Harris with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Konate lands another huge swinging hook and Harris tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Harris , before Konate can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Leonardo Konate! Leonardo Konate retains his middleweight title!
A very excited looking Leonardo Konate made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
