PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aulis Homelius (ranked 6452 p4p, 673 weight class) and Rob Collins (ranked 7798 p4p, 718 weight class). Collins has chosen For America as his entrance music. Rob Collins struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aulis Homelius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rob Collins!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Topper Green and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Collins closes the distance and clinches up with Homelius, looking for a takedown. Collins pushes Homelius against the cage but Homelius circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Collins looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Homelius swats away the attempt to clinch by Collins.

Homelius shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Collins's guard.
Collins looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Homelius is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Homelius throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Homelius is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Collins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Homelius to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Homelius has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Homelius seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Collins for as long as he can get away with.
Homelius tries to free his leg and advance position but Collins is retaining full guard.
Homelius has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Collins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Homelius controls the pace.
Homelius's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Homelius throws a looping overhand right but Collins ducks down to avoid it.
Homelius throws a low kick but it's checked well by Collins.
Collins looks to land a left hand but Homelius moved out of range nicely.

Homelius seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Collins has momentary wrist control but Homelius slips an elbow through the middle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Homelius stands up from Collins's guard - Homelius perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rob Collins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Homelius tries to bum rush Collins with a series of wild strikes but Collins uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Homelius shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Collins manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Homelius's corner is telling him to maintain position.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Homelius.
Collins can't keep his opponent in guard - Homelius advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Homelius decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Nice defenses there by Collins.
Homelius throws a jab but it's blocked by Collins.
Homelius looks to land a combination but Collins avoids it well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Homelius lands with a thumping leg kick.
Homelius fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Collins manages to avoid it.

Homelius feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Homelius is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Collins can do to turn this around?

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Homelius is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Collins's half guard.

Collins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Homelius thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Collins's head.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Homelius is taking a breather. Collins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Homelius here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Homelius shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Homelius is stinking the place up with his stalling.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Homelius throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Despite the aggression on Collins's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Homelius slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aulis Homelius showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Homelius has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
