PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Silva (ranked 1131 p4p, 54 weight class) and Testicular Cancer (ranked 9214 p4p, 333 weight class). Testicular Cancer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Silva!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Testicular Cancer!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cancer scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Cancer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Cancer misses with a wild body shot.
Cancer throws a hook but Silva blocks it.
Silva fails with a takedown attempt.
Alex Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva closes the distance but Cancer moves to the side
and Cancer counters with a stiff right hand.
Cancer misses the shot to the body.
As Cancer tries to get set, Silva tries to push him back and clinch up but Cancer manages to avoid the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva clinches up with Cancer and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva is trying to pull guard but Cancer turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Silva bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cancer's guard.

Silva cracks Cancer with a solid left hand.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cancer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Cancer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cancer pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've been hearing good reports from Silva's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Silva connects with a nice short shot to Cancer's temple.
Cancer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cancer is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Silva is looking to advance position but Cancer won't allow it.

Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cancer's waist but Cancer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Silva walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but Cancer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cancer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Silva was well out of range. Poor timing from Cancer.
Silva is looking to counter the offense by Cancer and move into the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cancer enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cancer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Silva thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cancer's head.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Silva will probably get the nod.

Cancer ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Silva out cold! The fight is over!
