Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joey Hatton (ranked 1264 p4p, 167 weight class) and Mickey Steel (ranked 2021 p4p, 258 weight class). Hatton comes to the cage accompanied by deadman. Steel has chosen Accept- Balls to the wall as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mickey Steel!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Steel or perhaps it was just good defense by Hatton, which made it look bad.
Hatton keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Steel manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hatton on his heels. He'll look to pass Hatton's guard now, I'm sure.

Hatton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Steel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hatton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steel has managed to get both his arms back between Hatton's legs - danger averted.

Steel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Steel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hatton wants to sweep here but Steel controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hatton trying to control the position.
Steel trying to control but Hatton is working from the bottom.
Steel content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Steel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Steel chips away with some ground and pound.
Hatton wants to control but Steel passes easily into half guard.
Steel keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hatton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hatton tries to roll over but Steel keeps him under control.

Hatton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hatton.
Steel with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Hatton has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Steel should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hatton has tightened it up now! Steel should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Joey Hatton!
