PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Austin Gunnar (ranked 9397 p4p, 717 weight class) and Marko Peschi (ranked 6904 p4p, 637 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Gunnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marko Peschi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peschi is looking to clinch.
Gunnar feinted with a counter takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Peschi.
Peschi tries to clinch but Gunnar moves out of range.
Peschi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gunnar.
Gunnar dives in for a single leg takedown but Peschi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Peschi tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Gunnar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Peschi won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Peschi takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Gunnar creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Peschi sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peschi is pushing Gunnar's head away, looking to escape. Gunnar manages to hold on to the position though.
Peschi should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Peschi is not content to let Gunnar control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peschi can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gunnar is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gunnar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gunnar is really struggling to control Peschi but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Gunnar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Peschi is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gunnar has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Peschi!

Gunnar is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Peschi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Peschi shrugs it off.
Gunnar cracks Peschi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Peschi gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Gunnar counters with a shoot takedown. Peschi fights it but they end up in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Peschi is on top in guard.

Gunnar looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gunnar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gunnar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
