PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reyes Bucanerro (ranked 7884 p4p, 734 weight class) and Nick Blanco (ranked 6880 p4p, 698 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reyes Bucanerro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Blanco!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blanco tries to sprawl but Bucanerro drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Bucanerro prevents Blanco from improving his position.
Blanco lands with a few short shots to the body.
Blanco is concentrating on defense, preventing Bucanerro from advancing position.
Bucanerro stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bucanerro sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Blanco defending well though.
Bucanerro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Blanco on the ground.
Blanco is not content to let Bucanerro control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blanco wants to improve his position but Bucanerro is controlling well.

Bucanerro seems to be looking for submissions.

Blanco should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Blanco bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bucanerro's guard.


Blanco stands up and waves to Bucanerro to follow him.

Blanco rushes Bucanerro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bucanerro pulls guard successfully.
Bucanerro keeping moving, preventing Blanco from controlling successfully.
Bucanerro wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Blanco is now in half guard.
Blanco looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Blanco looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Bucanerro looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Blanco is taking a breather. Bucanerro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Blanco scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Blanco looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bucanerro with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Blanco tries to pass to full mount but Bucanerro defends it.
Blanco has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Blanco is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bucanerro doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Blanco.
Blanco seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Blanco working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Blanco is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bucanerro sees it coming and defends easily.

Blanco passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bucanerro!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bucanerro tries to hold on but Blanco pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Blanco dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Blanco shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Bucanerro eats them both and turns towards Blanco to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Reyes Bucanerro has been cut.
Bucanerro displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Blanco.
Blanco tries for a takedown but Bucanerro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Blanco moves into the clinch successfully.

A right handed body shot lands from Bucanerro.

Bucanerro gets control of Blanco's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bucanerro will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

A jab from Bucanerro does it's job there.
Reyes Bucanerro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blanco gets the takedown into side control.
Blanco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Blanco wants to control but Bucanerro is keeping him busy.
Bucanerro prevents Blanco from moving into mount.
Bucanerro struggling a bit here.
Bucanerro is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Blanco moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Bucanerro is looking to reverse the position.

Blanco thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bucanerro is not content to let Blanco control the position.
Bucanerro is trying to control Blanco's posture but Blanco avoids it.

Blanco wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bucanerro keeps working.

Blanco is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Bucanerro looks calm but he's in trouble here. Blanco gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Bucanerro is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Blanco lets go of the hold and Bucanerro can pop his arm back in it's socket.
